Mildred H. Wamsley

HARRINGTON — Mildred H. Wamsley passed away Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. She was the daughter of the late, Henry and Elma Harris. She was 96. 

Mrs. Wamsley worked for Libby McNeil Processing for many years before becoming a cafeteria worker for 16 years in the Lake Forest School District.

Mrs. Wamsley used to have a big garden which allowed her to do a lot of canning and processing. She helped raise chickens and pigs on the family farm. She loved to be at all the family events, stayed  involved with her granddaughters and great-granddaughters, and she loved spending time with her sister, Henrietta and other family members.

Mrs. Wamsley was a very feisty, strong, independent woman who spoke her mind. She loved to eat, rarely missed church dinners or lunch with the ladies at Rudy’s.

Mrs. Wamsley was a member of the Harrington Senior Center and Independent Bible Fellowship Church where she was an active member

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wamsley was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Wamsley; sisters, Blanche Carr, Lola Elwanger, Eileen Wilson, and Margaret Dill; brothers, Solumn Harris, Russell Harris, Nobele Harris, George Harris, and William Harris.

Mrs. Wamsley is survived by her son, Mikell Wamsley (Linda); granddaughters, Lisa Collison (Philip) and Laura Hunt (Kevin); great-granddaughters, Kaylee and Maycee Collison and Madison and Brooklyn Hunt; and many good friends.

Services will take place at the Thomas E. Melvin & Son Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, on Monday, Aug. 28, 2017, at 12 p.m. A visitation for family and friends took place one hour prior. Interment took  place immediately after the funeral at the Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
