MILFORD — Kevin Docherty, Sr. passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2016 at his home. He was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, the son of the late, James and Edna Docherty.
Mr. Docherty proudly served as a Vietnam Veteran in the U.S. Marine Corp. He is a life member of the Veterans of Vietnam War and a disabled Vietnam veteran.
Mr. Docherty enjoyed teaching for 10 years in New Jersey schools, as well as in the Cape Henlopen School District, Milford School District, and special education in Lake Forest. He retired from the US Postal Service after 31 years of service.
Mr. Docherty loved sports. He coached girls’ basketball, boys’ football and softball, and Milford Little League. He played semi-professional baseball for many years. When not involved with sports, Mr. Docherty had a green thumb and could be found with his beloved dog, Elle, walking the pond or working in the yard. He enjoyed traveling when he could.
Mr. Docherty was a strong willed man who was up front with everyone, but could be a push over when you needed something. He contributed to many organizations and often gave to his favorite, the ASPCA.
Mr. Docherty is survived by his loving wife, Christine Docherty of Milford; son, Kevin Docherty, Jr. (Stephanie); daughters, Amie Docherty (Phillip Herber, Sr.) and Courtney Docherty; grandchildren, Victoria, Phillip, Jr., Alexandria, Lily and Owen; and a brother, James Docherty.
The family requests donations be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), 424 E. 92nd St, New York, NY 10128-6804, in lieu of flowers.
Memorial services will be Saturday, Sep. 10, 2016, at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington at 11AM. A visitation for family and friends will take place one hour prior.
