James T. ‘Tommy’ Tucker, Sr., 69
GREENWOOD — James T. “Tommy” Tucker, Sr. of Greenwood, son of the late Avery I. Sr. and Lottie Tucker, passed away Sunday, January 24, 2016. He was 69 years old.
Mr. Tucker was well known in the Greenwood area as a Farmer, Butcher, Auctioneer, livestock Hauler and Beekeeper. In more recent years he was known for his Produce Stand.
Mr. Tucker was a member of the Delaware Bee Association, and a member of the former Greenwood Kiwanis Club. In high school, Tommy was also a member of the FFA.
Mr. Tucker never met a stranger, and had a great sense of humor. He always had a joke to tell, but knew when to be serious and did not procrastinate about getting work done. He lived by the motto: You have to be a good neighbor to have a good neighbor.
Besides his parents, Tommy was preceded in death by his brother, Avery Tucker, Jr.; and his son, Jonathon Tucker.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Edna Tucker; children, James T. "Jimmy” Tucker, Jr., Shelley (Art) Workman, and Debbie (Robert) Layton; grandchildren, Jeromy (Amber) Tucker, Christine Layton, AJ Workman, Chelsea Layton, Andrew Workman, and JT Tucker III; great grandson, Jonathon Gregory Tucker; a brother, Levin (Carol) Tucker; and a sister, Lucinda (Rick) Huey.
Visitation will be on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at the Melvin Funeral Home 15522 S. DuPont Hwy. Harrington, DE from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be on Friday, January 29, 2016 at 11 a.m. also at Melvin Funeral Home. Burial will be at St. Johnstown Cemetery, Greenwood.
