Harry Kemp, of Felton, passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2017, at the Silver Lake Rehabilitation Center of Dover.  He was born on Nov. 30, 1930, one of eight children of Byron G. and Cora (Long) Kemp Sr.

 

Mr. Kemp attended Harrington High School and married Connie (Reed) Kemp in 1952.

 

He worked as a butcher/meat cutter at Kemp's Meat Market and Kling's Meat Market.  He also worked  as a custodian for the State Offices of Delaware in Dover, Caesar Rodney School District, and retired from the Lake Forest School District as Chief Custodian in 1991.  Upon retirement, he received an "Honorary" Diploma from Lake Forest.

 

Mr. Kemp could be seen around Felton cutting grass, pushing snow and plowing gardens.  He enjoyed fox hunting, going to Wal-Mart on Friday nights, showing ponies at the Delaware State Fair, and volunteering cutting up chicken for the Felton Community Fire Company for their dinners.  He would lend a hand to anyone in need and also attended Manship Chapel.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Connie in 2015; brothers, Byron Jr. and Norman; sisters, Martha, Freda, and Mildred.

 

He is survived by daughters, Marsha Jester and husband, William of Harrington, Donna Tucker and husband, Gene of Felton;  granddaughter, Carrie Strachar and husband, Joe of Harrington; great grandchildren, Zachary, Stephanie and Emily Jo Strachar of Harrington; sister, Thelma Stubbs; brother, Robert Kemp and wife, Betty; sister in law, Jean Wothers and her husband William; and numerous nieces and nephews.  A special thank you to his caregivers, The Bishop Family of Felton.

 

Funeral services will take place at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at 12 noon, with a visitation one hour prior to the service, and also a visitation Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 pm.  Interment will be at Hopkins Cemetery, Felton.

 

Flowers are accepted, and donations are also encouraged to either the Felton Fire Company, PO Box 946, Felton, DE 19943 and/or Eastern Shore Western Horse "Youth" Assoc., c/o Tina Joyner, 2275 Peachtree Run Road, Dover, DE 19901.
