George "Jack" L. Sapp

            George L. "Jack" Sapp, of Harrington, passed away on May 24, 2016, from the Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital.  He was 76.  Mr. Sapp was the son of the late Preston and Mary Sapp.

            Mr. Sapp was a graduate of the Harrington High School, class of 1957.  After graduation, he served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy for four years.  He served two terms on the USS Lexington and one term on the USS Coral Sea.  He retired from the Seaford DuPont plant as an Engineers Assistant after 33 years of employment.

          In his spare time, he loved to play cards, going to the horse races, and watching westerns on television.  He lived for baseball, and his favorite team was the LA Dodgers.  Mr. Sapp was a very caring, easy going man with a heart of gold, who was easy to please.  He was extremely devoted to his wife and son, Richard, and very active in his grandsons lives, attending all their activities.  He enjoyed walking around town and received a “500 mile” certificate from DuPont.

          Mr. Sapp was a long time member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, of Harrington, where he served as the head usher.  The past four years he served as an usher at the  Greensboro Baptist Church.  He was also a former councilman on the Harrington City Council, where he served on the planning and zoning committee.  He was also a member of the Harrington Moose and the Disabled American Veterans Association.  Mr. Sapp was a devoted Lifetime Member of the Harrington Fire Company where he proudly served in many capacities, which included the set up of functions and the kitchen. 

            Mr. Sapp is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Kaye Sapp of Harrington; son, Richard Sapp (Shelley) of Harrington; grandsons, Jesse, Cody, Riley and Brodie of Harrington; brother, Donald Sapp of Sterling, VA; and a sister, Janette Harrington of Harrington.

            Celebration of his life service will take place on Saturday, May 28, 2016, at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington at 2pm.  A visitation for family and friends will take place starting at noon.  Interment will follow at the Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.                                .
