Doris L. Biggs

October 25, 2017

Doris L. Biggs

On October 25, 2017, Doris went to her heavenly home to join her loving husband.  She was born in Federalsburg, MD, June 17, 1937, the daughter of Ray John Shelton Wyatt and Kathryn Andrews.

She will be fondly remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who always put her family first.  In addition to her family her long-time friends will also miss her.  She had a tenacious nature and remained the strong family matriarch till the end. She was independent, devoted, and faithful.

Doris graduated from Felton School, she provided bookkeeping services to her husband’s dairy and grain business and worked as a bookkeeper for Harold Remley and Ray Book. She later worked at Delaware Technical Community College for Dan Simpsons, then Dean of Instruction and retired to care for her ailing husband.  She volunteered for Delaware Hospice for over 25 years. She was a dedicated and active member of Manship Chapel and served as it’s treasurer for many years. Till the end she actively challenged her minister on his biblical expertise and interpretation of bible passages. She was also a member of the VCF Ruritan Club and served in various officer roles. She enjoyed reading, studying the scriptures, gardening, yoga, line dancing, and spending time with her family especially her great grandson Dax Vogl.  She also loved spending time with her beloved pets throughout the years. Through it all and till the end, she remained the central force in overseeing family affairs. She passed her strength and fierce independence onto her youngest daughter, Carol and her love of motherhood to her oldest daughter, Cathy. She passed her persistence, perseverance and resolve onto her three grandsons. With great pride they will remain the products of her legacy.

Doris is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robert and her half-brother Leroy Andrew.  She is immediately survived by her daughters, Cathy Vogl and Carol Kirby. She is also survived by her favorite son-in-law, Ernest Vogl, her grandsons Robert, Jason, and Travis Vogl. Oma is also survived by the apple of her eye, reading partner and fish feeding assistant, great grandson, Dax Vogl.

A private burial has already occurred and a celebration of her life will be held on November 10, 2017, at 11 am at Manship Chapel, 4912 Burnite Mill Road (Route 12) Felton, DE 19943. You may visit with the family after the service in the Manship fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her memory to Delaware Hospice or Manship Chapel.
