Betty M. Cornell

Betty M. Cornell, age 83, of Felton, passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2016, from her home surrounded by the family she loved dearly.  She was born in Felton, DE to the late Roland and Mary Etta Legates.

Mrs. Cornell worked as a seamstress at both the Aetna Shirt Factory and Milford Stitching, where she retired.  

In her spare time, she enjoyed listening to her country music, especially Alan Jackson, watching old westerns, and wrestling.  She could get so mad watching wrestling that it was not uncommon for her to yell at the TV.  She loved spending as much time as she could with her grandchildren as well as her "grand dog" Rocky who she had to see at least once a week.  In her later years, she enjoyed going to Wal-Mart which was the highlight of the week for her, as this allowed her time out of the house to socialize and get all her hugs.  She will be remembered as a protective, spunky, but loving mother who cared for her family dearly.    

Mrs. Cornell was a member of the Marine Corp Ladies Auxiliary and also the American Legion.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ken William Cornell, granddaughter, Bella Lane; sisters, Pearl Ross and Sarah Murphy.

She is survived by her son, Gary Legates (Sharon)  of Dover; her daughters, Cathy Harding (Kevin) of Milford, Sonia Cornell of Felton; sisters, Ruth Bradley of Felton, Doris Legates of Magnolia, Norma Spence of Bucyrus, OH; 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren.

A graveside service will take place at Hopkins Cemetery, Felton, on Friday, July 22, 2016 at 11AM.  A visitation for family and friends will take place at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, at 10 AM on Friday as well.
